'A simple child...
That lightly draws its breath
And feels its life in every limb,
What should it know of death?'

Akshaya Patra spreads it’s smile to Assam

Posted: 17 May 2012 02:13 AM PDT

The eighth state in India under Akshaya Patra’s light is Assam. We recently had a great Akshaya Patra inauguration at Guwahati, Assam.

It was a disused industrial shed, located about 1 km from the banks of the mighty river Brahmaputra which is now turned out to be the hygienic, technology-intensive Akshaya Patra kitchen. It was all because of the sincere efforts of Shri Janardhan Dasa,Akshaya Patra location Head, Assam, that the conversion took place in a record time of three months.

Let’s give our children their right to a brighter future

Posted: 17 May 2012 01:59 AM PDT

Poverty continues to be one of the biggest hurdles India faces in its quest to emerge as a superpower of the new Millenium. There seems to be a 'thin red line' we must cross before we take a leap to the other side of the fence. Poverty is the vicious 'keeper', guarding it.

A new study on nutritional challenges reports that more than half of child deaths in India are due to malnutrition. The rise of similar strident alarms has fallen on deaf ears.

Akshaya Patra's call for action has resonated with thousands of people across the world who wish to make a difference.

An Akshaya Patra initiative to eradicate hunger and poverty

Posted: 17 May 2012 12:15 AM PDT

A huge smile spread across Yogitha's face as she put the phone's receiver down. She had been talking to a prospective donor who had confirmed to her that he was more than willing to donate a considerable amount to Akshaya Patra's noble cause. The smile at the end of the call was the highlight because it seemed like the after-effect of Yogitha's conversation was similar at the other end of the line as well. Yogitha, a fundraiser, is part of the foundation's tele-marketing team.

The Rice Cleaning Marvel

Posted: 17 May 2012 12:07 AM PDT

One of the many salient features of the world's largest kitchen includes the system to clean raw rice. This rice-cleaning machine was imported from Spain in the year 2005. The arrangement, with a capacity of cleaning up to 5 tons of rice in an hour, can be divided into three sections. The first section segregates metal adulterants such as nails, iron fillings etc; the second, a larger structure, segregates dust, moth, chaff, husk and broken rice grains while the third separates stones from the rice.
