‘Fighting Hunger, Feeding Minds’ – Workshop for Journalists Held in Mangalore

Mangalore, Jul 12: The Akshaya Patra Foundation which runs the world's largest mid day meal programme in partnership with the state and central government of India held a media orientation on the topic 'Fighting hunger, feeding minds' here on Thursday July 12.

Akshaya Patra feeding mid day meals mangaloreThe objective of the workshop was to direct focus through media to hunger and encourage debate on the way it impedes education. The workshop also served to help journalists cover socially sensitive stories such as hunger and not to exaggerate political issues and violence.

Speaking on the occasion, Karunya Sagar Dasa, the unit president of Akshaya Patra, Mangalore said that the partnership of Akshaya Patra with the mid day meal progranmme of the government is helping to boost nutrition and build sustainable solutions to hunger.

He added that Akshaya Patra foundation in Karnataka is already serving 544605 children in 2690 schools everyday in locations such as Bangalore, Hubli, Bellary, Mysore and Mangalore.

Senior journalist Srinivas Sirnookar, principal correspondent, Deccan Herald, Gulbarga, spoke during the workshop and said that poverty cannot be defined in words as it has various wings. In India there are about 20 cr people who are not sure of their dinner every day. He stressed that journalists must highlight their stories on hunger and should not give much importance for political and violence than required.
