"MOFILM is sensitive to social issues and we are proud to be associated with them in this initiative. Their work is significant as it will help to spread awareness on the issues of hunger and illiteracy and thereby encourage people to come forward and associate with us in our efforts to address the same," said Shri Chanchalapathi Dasa, Vice Chairman, The Akshaya Patra Foundation. Mr Shibaji Ghosh, President, MOFILM said, "The Akshaya Patra Foundation was a spontaneous choice for us when it came to identifying a social cause to be featured in our contest. Their work inspired us and we are very happy to associate with them." About The Akshaya Patra Foundation The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, came into being in the year 2000 to address two of the most immediate challenges of India - hunger and education. The Foundation has gained formidable repute since then for being a child-centric, secular organisation with a focused approach. The Foundation began its work by providing quality mid-day meals to 1500 children in 5 schools in Bangalore with the understanding that the meal would attract children to schools, after which it would be easier to retain them and focus on their holistic development. 10 years later, the Foundation has expanded its footprint to cover 1.2 million children in 8 states across India. Public-private partnerships with the Central and respective state governments have helped to scale up the programme rapidly and make a difference. The Akshaya Patra Foundation programme is the largest such programme in India, and the world. date: Tue, 2011-08-23 Tue, 2011-08-23 Promote to news Off The Akshaya Patra Foundation was selected by MOFILM for Taj Mahal 2011, which is a unique video film contest.
