Kṛṣṇa’s Hiding from the Gopīs

Posted: 02 Sep 2011 01:04 PM PDT

Dear friends, just imagine how the dust of this place is transcendentally glorious. The dust of the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa is worshiped even by Lord Brahmā and Lord Śiva, and the goddess of fortune, Lakṣmī. But at the same time, we are very sorry that this particular gopī has gone along with Kṛṣṇa, for She is sharing the nectar of Kṛṣṇa’s kisses and leaving us aside to lament. O friends, just see! At this particular spot we do not see the footprints of that gopī. It appears that because there were some pin-pricks from the dried grass, Kṛṣṇa took Rādhārāṇī on His shoulder. O, She is so dear to Him! Kṛṣṇa must have picked some flowers in this spot to satisfy Rādhārāṇī, because here, where He stood erect to get the flowers from the high branches of the tree, we find only half the impression of His feet. Dear friends, just see how Kṛṣṇa must have sat down here with Rādhārāṇī and tried to set flowers in Her hair. You can be certain that both of Them sat together here.”

Kṛṣṇa’s Hiding from the Gopīs

When Kṛṣṇa suddenly disappeared from the company of the gopīs, they began to search for Him in every place. After not finding Him anywhere, they became afraid and almost mad after Him. They were simply thinking of the pastimes of Kṛṣṇa in great love and affection. Being absorbed in thought, they experienced loss of memory, and with dampened eyes they began to see the very pastimes of Kṛṣṇa, His beautiful talks with them, His embracing, kissing, and other activities. Being so attracted to Kṛṣṇa, they began to imitate His dancing, His walking and smiling, as if they themselves were Kṛṣṇa. Due to Kṛṣṇa’s absence, they all became crazy; each one of them began to tell the others that she was Kṛṣṇa Himself. Soon they all began to assemble together and chant Kṛṣṇa’s name very loudly, and they moved from one part of the forest to another searching for Him. Actually, Kṛṣṇa is all-pervasive; He is in the sky, and He is in the forest; He is within the heart, and He is always everywhere.

The gopīs therefore began to question the trees and plants about Kṛṣṇa. There were various types of big trees and small plants in the forest, and the gopīs began to address them. “Dear banyan tree, have you seen the son of Mahārāja Nanda passing this way, laughing and playing on His flute? He has stolen our hearts and has gone away. If you have seen Him, kindly inform us which way He has gone. Dear aśoka tree, dear nāga flower tree and campaka flower tree, have you seen the younger brother of Balarāma pass this way? He has disappeared because of our pride.” The gopīs were aware of the reason for Kṛṣṇa’s sudden disappearance. They could understand that when they were enjoying Kṛṣṇa, they thought themselves to be the most fortunate women within the universe, and since they were feeling proud, Kṛṣṇa disappeared immediately just to curb their pride. Kṛṣṇa does not like His devotees to be proud of their service to Him. He accepts everyone’s service, but He does not like one devotee to be prouder than others. If sometimes there are such feelings, Kṛṣṇa ends them by changing His attitude toward the devotee.

The gopīs then began to address the tulasī plants: “Dear tulasī, you are much beloved by Lord Kṛṣṇa because your leaves are always at His lotus feet. Dear mālatī flower, dear mallikā flower, dear jasmine flower, all of you must have been touched by Kṛṣṇa while He was passing this way after giving us transcendental enjoyment. Have you seen Mādhava passing this way? O mango trees, O trees of jack fruit, O pear trees and āsana trees! O blackberries and bael trees and trees of kadamba flower–you are all very pious trees to be living on the bank of Yamunā. Kṛṣṇa must have passed through this way. Will you kindly let us know which way He has gone?”

The gopīs then looked upon the ground they were traversing and began to address the earth, “Dear earthly planet, we do not know how many penances and austerities you have undergone to be now living with the footprints of Lord Kṛṣṇa upon you. You are very jolly; the hairs on your body are these jubilant trees and plants. Lord Kṛṣṇa must have been very much pleased with you, otherwise how could He have embraced you in the form of Varāha the boar? When you were submerged in water, He delivered you, taking the whole weight of your existence on His tusks.”

After addressing the innumerable trees and plants, they turned their faces toward the beautiful deer who were looking on them very pleasingly. “It appears,” they addressed the deer, “that Kṛṣṇa, who is the Supreme Nārāyaṇa Himself, must have passed through this way along with His companion, Lakṣmī, the goddess of fortune. Otherwise, how is it possible that the aroma of His garland, which is smeared with the red kuṅkuma from the breast of the goddess of fortune, can be perceived in the breeze blowing here? It appears that they must have passed through here and touched your bodies, and thus you are feeling so pleasant and are looking toward us with sympathy. Will you kindly, therefore, inform us which way Kṛṣṇa has gone? Kṛṣṇa is the well-wisher of Vṛndāvana. He is as kind to you as to us; therefore after leaving us, He must have been present in your company. O fortunate trees, we are thinking of Kṛṣṇa, the younger brother of Balarāma. While passing through here, with one hand resting on the shoulder of the goddess of fortune and the other hand whirling a lotus flower, He must have been very pleased to accept your obeisances, and He must have glanced at you with great pleasure.”

Some of the gopīs then began to address their other gopī friends, “Dear friends, why don’t you question these creepers who are so jubilantly embracing the big trees as if the trees were their husbands? It appears that the flowers of the creepers must have been touched by the nails of Kṛṣṇa. Otherwise, how could they feel so jubilant?”

After searching for Kṛṣṇa here and there, when the gopīs became fatigued, they began to talk like madwomen. They could only satisfy themselves by imitating the different pastimes of Kṛṣṇa. One of them imitated the demon, Pūtanā, and one of them imitated Kṛṣṇa and sucked her breast. One gopī imitated a hand-driven cart, and another gopī lay down beneath the cart and began to throw up her legs, touching the wheels of the cart, as Kṛṣṇa did to kill the demon Śakaṭāsura. They imitated child Kṛṣṇa, lying down on the ground, and one gopī became the demon Tṛṇāvarta and carried the small child Kṛṣṇa by force into the sky; and one of the gopīs began to imitate Kṛṣṇa while He was attempting to walk, ringing His ankle bells. Two gopīs imitated Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, and many others imitated Their cowherd boy friends. One gopī assumed the form of Bakāsura, and another forced her to fall down as the demon Bakāsura did when he was killed; similarly, another gopī defeated Vatsāsura. Just as Kṛṣṇa used to call His cows by their different names, so the gopīs imitated Him, calling the cows by their respective names. One of the gopīs began to play on a flute, and another praised her the way Kṛṣṇa’s boy friends praised Him while He played on His flute. One of the gopīs took another gopī on her shoulders, just as Kṛṣṇa used to take His boy friends. Absorbed in thoughts of Kṛṣṇa, the gopī who was carrying her friend began to boast that she was Kṛṣṇa herself: “All of you just see my movement!” One of the gopīs raised her hand with her covering garments and said, “Now don’t be afraid of torrents of rain and severe hurricanes. I’ll save you!” In this way she imitated the lifting of Govardhana Hill. One gopī forcibly put her feet on the head of another gopī and said, “You rascal Kāliya! I shall punish you severely. You must leave this place. I have descended on this earth to punish all kinds of miscreants!” Another gopī told her friends, “Just see! The flames of the forest fire are coming to devour us. Please close your eyes, and I shall immediately save you from this imminent danger.”

In this way all the gopīs were madly feeling the absence of Kṛṣṇa. They enquired for Him from the trees and plants. In some places they found the imprints of the marks on the sole of His feet–namely the flag, the lotus flower, the trident, the thunderbolt, etc. After seeing those footprints, they exclaimed, “O here is the impression of the marks on the sole of Kṛṣṇa. All the marks, such as the flag, the lotus flower, the trident and the thunderbolt, are distinctly visible here.” They began to follow the footprints, and shortly they saw another set of footprints beside them, and immediately they became very sorry. “Dear friends, just see! Whose are these other footprints? They are beside the footprints of the son of Mahārāja Nanda. It is certainly Kṛṣṇa passing through, resting His hand on some other gopī, exactly as an elephant goes side by side with his beloved mate. We must, therefore, understand that this particular gopī served Kṛṣṇa with greater affectionate love than ourselves. Because of this, although He has left us, He could not leave Her company. He has taken Her along with Him. You can be certain that both of Them sat together here.” Kṛṣṇa is self-sufficient; He has nothing to enjoy from any other source, yet just to satisfy His devotee He has treated Rādhārāṇī exactly as a lusty boy treats his girlfriend. Kṛṣṇa is so kind that He always tolerates the disturbances created by His girl friends.

In this way, all the gopīs began to point out the faults of the particular gopī who had been taken alone by Kṛṣṇa. They began to say that the chief gopī, Rādhārāṇī, who was taken alone by Kṛṣṇa, must be very proud of Her position, thinking Herself the greatest of the gopīs. “Yet how could Kṛṣṇa take Her away alone, leaving all of us aside, unless She be extraordinarily qualified and beautiful? She must have taken Kṛṣṇa in the deep forest and told Him, ‘My dear Kṛṣṇa, I am now very tired. I cannot go any further. Please carry Me wherever You like.’ When Kṛṣṇa was spoken to in this way, He might have told Rādhārāṇī, ‘All right, better get on My shoulder.’ But immediately Kṛṣṇa must have disappeared, and now Rādhārāṇī must be lamenting for Him, ‘My dear lover, My dearest, You are so fine and so powerful. Where have You gone? I am nothing but Your most obedient maidservant. I am very much aggrieved. Please come and be with Me again.’ Kṛṣṇa, however, is not coming to Her. He must be watching Her from a distant place and enjoying Her sorrow.”

All the gopīs then went further and further into the forest, searching out Kṛṣṇa, but when they learned that actually Rādhārāṇī was left alone by Kṛṣṇa, they became very sorry. This is the test of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. In the beginning they were a little envious that Kṛṣṇa had taken Rādhārāṇī alone, leaving aside all other gopīs, but as soon as they knew that Kṛṣṇa had also left Rādhārāṇī and that She was alone lamenting for Him, they became more sympathetic to Her. The gopīs found Rādhārāṇī and heard everything from Her, about how She misbehaved with Kṛṣṇa and how She was proud and was insulted for Her pride. After hearing all this, they became actually very sympathetic. Then all the gopīs, including Rādhārāṇī, began to proceed further into the forest, until they could no longer see the moonlight.

When they saw that it was getting gradually darker, they stopped. Their mind and intelligence became absorbed in the thoughts of Kṛṣṇa; they all imitated the activities of Kṛṣṇa and His speeches. Due to their heart and soul being completely given to Kṛṣṇa, they began to chant His glories, completely forgetting their family interests. In this way, all the gopīs assembled together on the bank of Yamunā, and expecting that Kṛṣṇa must return to them, they simply engaged in the chanting of the glories of Śrī Kṛṣṇa–Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.

Thus ends the Bhaktivedanta purport of the Thirtieth Chapter of Kṛṣṇa, “Kṛṣṇa’s Hiding from the Gopīs.”

The World Acarya

Posted: 02 Sep 2011 12:51 PM PDT

Recent history has demonstrated Srila Prabhupada to be by far the greatest exponent of Lord Caitanya’s teachings, who freed them, carried them from the Indian sub-continent to the rest of the world. It is said that Nityananda Prabhu plundered the storehouse of love of God when preaching in Bengal by the order of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. 477 years later Srila Prabhupada again plundered that storehouse, only to return with the treasure to India to distribute it once again! These feats are impossible to duplicate. They have already changed the course of history.

The World Acarya
By: Rupanuga Dasa (ACBSP 66)
Aug 21, 2011 — FLORIDA, USA (SUN)

Even though Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam were spoken and recorded in 3,000 B.C., it wasn’t until 1965 A.D., 5,000 years later, that these original sastras containing the Yuga Dharma were released from India by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Bhaktivinode Thakur had previously inaugurated the Hare Krsna Movement, the emblem of that Yuga Dharma, when he sent his Caitanya—His Life and Precepts to McGill University, Canada, in 1896. More copies of this sublime volume have been found in other countries, suggesting that the Thakur made an extensive mailing to the major English-speaking universities of his day.

From 1914, the son of Bhaktivinode, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati, meditated upon how to execute his father’s order to go forward and fulfill his premonition that people from all over the world would chant and dance at Mayapur. It has been Lord Caitanya’s prediction that His Name would be known in every town and village of the world. To this end Srila Bhaktisiddhanta established 64 maths, large and small, mostly in Bengal, with the intention of training up Indians to preach in the West.

So it was at the very first meeting of Abhay Charan De, destined to become his principle disciple, that he admonished the educated young men present to prepare themselves for preaching in English in the West. It was Abhay Charan who would become A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, the next Srila Prabhupada, and go not only to the English-speaking countries, but to people on every continent, where dozens of different languages were spoken. Who knew? Who could have known all this would happen? But one thing is noteworthy. In 1896, when Srila Prabhupada appeared, there were three giant Vaisnavas already present, namely Gour Kishore das Babji, Bhaktivinode Thakur and Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati. Bhaktivinode Thakur and Gour Kishore didn’t disappear until 1914 and 1915 respectively. By that time Abhay Charan De was approaching his 20th year. These four great personalities being present on Earth simultaneously clearly foretold a spiritual critical mass approaching in Lord Caitanya’s world-wide movement.

That critical mass was not to be reached in India, but far away, 10,000 miles away in “the land of voidism and impersonalism,” ruled not by Buddhist or Mayavada philosophy but by materialistic science and sectarian religion. From childhood, the Americans were taught that asking about the purpose of life was a meaningless question, that there was no proof of life after death or advanced life on other planets. Nature was running automatically, following laws that somehow evolved. The theory of evolution was taught in the schools as a law of nature. Those who believed in God had such a vague idea that love of God remained theoretical and practices ritualistic. Many thought reaching their heaven was guaranteed even if they remained sinful. It would take many pages to describe the complex society that awaited Srila Prabhupada’s arrival, but it was basically a frustrating time of “perhaps, maybe” futuristic science and the philosophy of life: “eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we may die.”

That critical mass was reached in 1966, when Srila Prabhupada, then Swamiji, opened the door of his little rented storefront. At that moment the transcendental plane, like a bolt of lightening, intersected the mundane plane, igniting a chain reaction that continues around the world, burning to ashes the most cherished illusions of conditioned souls.

Comprehending how Srila Prabhupada acquired the benediction of spiritual potency he carried with him to America requires some historical review. Srila Prabhupada once explained that Lord Caitanya picked Srila Rupa Goswami because he was qualified to bear the burden of the responsibility of teaching the science of devotional service. He was fit. “Nana-sastra-vicaranaika-nilpunau sad-dharma-samsthapakau,” the Goswamis led by Rupa Goswami scrutinizingly studied the Vedic literatures to extract the essence of “Krsna Bhakti rasabhavamrta,” translated by Srila Prabhupada in his Nectar of Devotion as “Krsna consciousness.” In his turn, Srila Prabhupada studied the Six Goswamis and previous Acaryas, compiled the realizations of these great souls and included them in purports along with his own infallible wisdom – all in a way just suitable for the understanding of modern man.

The magnitude of Srila Prabhupada’s accomplishment must be viewed on the cosmic scale. Lord Krsna appears once only in a day of Lord Brahma, of 4,320,000 x 1,000 solar years, a period of time beyond human imagination. Although there are many hundreds of thousands of planets in this middle planetary system, Earth is the planet where Lord Krsna Himself appears to display His eternal pastimes, not elsewhere. 4,320,000 solar years equals one cycle of four yugas, and in each yuga there appears a Yuga Avatar to teach the Yuga Dharma. The Yuga Avatar is white in Satya, red in Treta, syama (dark blue) in Dvapara and blackish in Kali. The Kali-yuga Avatar is usually blackish, “but in special cases pita (yellow) as Caitanya Mahaprabhu in the Kali-yuga (Caitanya-caritamrta Madhya 20.246 purport).

Out of the four bona fide Vaisnava Sampradayas, Lord Caitanya chose to appear in the Brahma-Madhva Sampradaya. Why He did so can be surmised from the following explanations in the Caitanya-caritamrta:

“Srila Bhaktisiddhanta remarks that in the disciplic succession of Madhvacarya – up to the advent of His Holiness Sripada Laksmipati Tirtha – only Lord Krsna was worshipped. After Srila Madhavendra Puri worship of both Radha and Krsna was established. For this reason Sri Madhavendra Puri is accepted as the root of worship in ecstatic love. Unless one is connected to the disciplic succession of Madhavendra Puri, there is no possibility of awakening the symptoms of ecstatic love.” (Caitanya-caritamrta Madhya 9.289 purport)

“The process of worship in the disciplic succession of Madhvacarya was full of ritualistic ceremonies, with hardly a sign of love of Godhead; Sri Madhavendra Puri was the first person in the disciplic succession to exhibit symptoms of love of Godhead.” (Caitanya-caritamrta Adi 9.10 purport)

“Out of the four sampradayas, Sri Madhva Sampradaya was accepted by Madhavendra Puri. Beginning from Madhvacarya down to the spiritual master of Madhavendra Puri… there was no realization of devotional service in conjugal love. Sri Madhavendra Puri introduced the conception of conjugal love for the first time in the Madhavacarya Sampradaya…” (Caitanya-caritamrta Madhya 4.197 purport)

Now according to the symptoms of Kali-yuga described in the Srimad Bhagavatam, things are degrading very quickly, considering only 5,000 years have passed out of 432,000 total. Fifty or sixty years ago abortion was criminal, rape was a capital offense, gambling was restricted to special locations, pornography and cursing in the media was forbidden and strictly monitored by government agencies, child abuse was rarely in the news, and “serial killers”, “home invasions”, and organized international terrorism were unheard of. Could it be that Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s appearance in this particular Kali-yuga signals it to be especially pernicious? Winter is winter, but some winters are severe.

Be that as it may, still we are most fortunate to be here now, so close in time to Lord Krsna and Lord Caitanya’s appearances. Close enough to guarantee that Their spoken words and pastimes would be passed on in our disciplic succession without change in meaning, as epitomized by Srila Prabhupada’s teachings. After all, there are innumerable living entities, spirit-souls, persons like us but in different dresses all around us, yet we find ourselves in human form, born at the right time and the right place to obtain Srila Prabhupada’s mercy. Our reciprocation, our mission is simple: pass it on as it is. Srila Prabhupada said, “I am the tenth Acarya in line from Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and you are next.”

Although not officially accepted by other Vaisnava sampradayas, Lord Caitanya is confirmed as “Krsna-varnam”, the same category or division as Krsna Himself (Srimad Bhagavatam 11.5.32). Lord Caitanya’s characteristic and mission is confirmed in numerous sastras, including the Arthava Veda, Sama Veda, Mundaka Upanisad, Garuda Purana, Nrisimha Purana, Ananta-samhita, Brahmayama, Kulanava Tantra, et al. For example, in the Devi Purana it is said: “The Supreme Personality will appear again in this world. His name will be Krsna Caitanya and He will spread the chanting of the Lord’s holy names.” And in the Padma Purana it is stated, “In the 1st Sandhya of Kali-yuga I will appear on Earth in a beautiful place by Ganges’ shores. I will be the son of Saci-devi and my complexion will be golden.”

So by appearing in the Brahma-Madhava Sampradaya, teaching and demonstrating the highest conceptions of God and love of God, Lord Krsna Caitanya, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself, made the succeeding Acaryas in that line the highest authorities on the Science of God. As Srila Prabhupada remarked about Lord Krsna’s Gita, “Nobody can explain God better than God Himself.” The same holds true for Lord Caitanya’s instructions as recorded by His exalted followers such as the Six Goswamis and Krsnadas Kaviraj and perfectly translated and explained by Srila Prabhupada.

The Gaudiya Vaisnava Sampradaya, therefore, presents the summum bonum, the ultimate siddhanta and realization of the Absolute Personality of Godhead – beyond that of other sampradayas, what to speak of sectarian religions of the day – as exemplified by the concept of “inconceivably simultaneously one and different.”

Because Srila Prabhupada became the topmost preacher in the sampradaya in which Caitanya Mahaprabhu taught, he is qualified to be Acarya of all Vaisnavas in whichever sampradaya or community they may be. There is simply no higher Vaisnava siddhanta than Srila Prabhupada has already preached around the world, purporting exactly what Lord Caitanya and the Goswamis taught without changing the meaning, at all.

Therefore, Srila Prabhupada is everyone’s Acarya, a true universal Acarya, and actually the world Acarya beyond any doubt. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta and Bhaktivinode Thakur are also World Acaryas, teachers of everyone. But it is through Srila Prabhupada that these greatest of souls have acted in a missionary spirit, that same missionary spirit of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. They are teaching through Srila Prabhupada, their perfect transparent medium and they must be understood through him, not directly. That is the meaning of parampara, one cannot jump over to a previous Acarya for understanding.

For example, when asked whether his disciples could translate and publish the writings of other previous Acaryas after his disappearance, Srila Prabhupada replied, “A realized soul, must be. Otherwise, simply imitating A-B-C-D will not help. My purports are liked by people because it is presented as practical experience… Our translation must be document. They are not ordinary… One cannot become unless one is very realized. It is not A-B-C-D translation.” (May 28, 1977, Vrindavan). In other words, Srila Prabhupada is giving permission for a disciple who has first fully realized his teachings, not simply theoretically or grammatically. Such a fully realized soul would be competent to translate previous Acaryas.

In 1972, Sridham Mayapur, after a morning lecture all the assembled devotees were paying their obeisances to Srila Prabhupada. One old Bengali gentleman stood up, and leaning on his cane he spoke up loudly, “Save the whole world Prabhupada. Prabhupada save the whole world!” Yes! And in due time, people will understand the true meaning of “Prabhupada” – the Master (Prabhu) at whose lotus feet (pada) all others pay their obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada…

We are willing to settle and handover the control of ISKCON Bangalore society registered in 1978 if the above ISKCON Law (ISKCON Law 6.4.7.2) is rescinded and it is openly declared that Srila Prabhupada is the only Acharya of ISKCON and that no one else should accept disciples within ISKCON. Any further discussions on the peace proposal can be worked out provided these facts are first accepted by ISKCON Mumbai. Only based on this first step can any peace or settling of issues can make meaningful progress.

Press Note

ISKCON Mumbai is not serious about peace
By Madhu Pandit Dasa
Bangalore 1st September, 2011.

We got to know through media sources that ISKCON Mumbai's Bureau members conducted a press conference today and claimed that they are willing to settle the dispute between ISKCON Bangalore and Mumbai as per the Supreme Courts' desire. We are sending this clarificatory press release so as to present the actual facts of the matter.

We wish to place on record that ISKCON Bangalore was the first to offer a peace proposal, we had offered peace proposal as early as 4th of February 2009. This peace proposal was given just before City Civil Court pronounced its verdict that ISKCON Bangalore registered in 1978 is an independent society and that ISKCON Mumbai registered in 1971 should not interfere with Bangalore's affairs. This proposal was categorically rejected by ISKCON Mumbai. The proposal was sent in writing you can view the same by going to the following link: http://www.iskconbangalore.org/sites/default/files/Krishna-Voice-July-2011.pdf (page 48).

Further, after June 5th 2011 hearing of Supreme Court which instructed both the litigating parties to maintain Status quo and try to resolve the differences peacefully. I went personally to ISKCON Mumbai, and met with Sri Bhima Dasa the member Secretary of Bureau of ISKCON Mumbai, to discuss and work out peace proposal. Unfortunately Sri Bhima dasa, threatened that if we do not surrender to the ISKCON Guru system, all the ISKCON Bangalore society's office bearers will be jailed. I was humiliated when a proposal for peace was offered, a patented proof to the fact that ISKCON Mumbai is not really serious about peace.

ISKCON Mumbai's claim that they have invited me to come for discussion today with all the Bureau members is far from truth as we have not received any such invitation. These are all eyewash techniques of ISKCON Mumbai which wants to make a farcical show to Supreme Court and to people in general that they have tried to resolve the matters peacefully and that we are not serious about peaceful settlement.

It should also be noted here that I too am a member of the ISKCON Mumbai's govern council or Bureau, but I have not been getting any invitations from them for their meeting and I have got to know from sources that the Bureau has conducted a meeting in Bangalore today and I have not been invited for the same.

In spite of being humiliated time again and they not being serious about peace, ISKCON Bangalore is deeply interested in resolving the differences, amicably settle and focus on constructive endeavors. We reiterate that our offer for peace is always open and that we are ready to discuss the issue at length. We even now invite 2or 3 representatives of ISKCON Mumbai's Bureau to come to ISKCON Bangalore's Radha Krishna Mandir on Hare Krishna Hill Rajajinagar so that proposals can be discussed.

We also wish to openly declare that the origin of this dispute is not property related but it is related to succession to the Acharya peetha after the physical departure of Srila Prabhupada the founder and Acharya of ISKCON. The International governing body has passed the following resolution which has been adopted by ISKCON Mumbai:

The Posthumous Rtvik Doctrine

The doctrine that Srila Prabhupada continues to initiate direct diksha disciples after his departure from this world thro' officiating priests (rtviks) is a dangerous philosophical deviation. It is totally prohibited in ISKCON. No devotee shall participate in such posthumous rtvik initiation ceremonies in any capacity including acting as rtvik, initiate, assistant, organizer or financier. No ISKCON devotee shall advocate or support its practice." (ISKCON Law 6.4.7.2)

We the devotees of ISKCON Bangalore are leading a reform movement within ISKCON against immorality and corruption where unqualified largely western disciples have usurped the position of Acharya, Srila Prabhupada and are making their own disciples, thus creating hundreds of guru camps within the movement. More than forty of these self made gurus have fallen from grace into immoral activities and have brought great disrepute to the ISKCON movement all over the world. This reform movement is supported by thousands of devotees and disciples from all over the world. Many thousands of disciples of Srila Prabhupada have been hounded out of ISKCON for having said Srila Prabhupada is the only guru of ISKCON by the unauthorized self-made gurus of ISKCON.

They attempted to bribe me earlier by offering to make me a guru in order to kill the reform movement against immorality and corruption in ISKCON. The current attempt is either a drama or another attempt to bribe me with lifelong president-ship of ISKCON Bangalore and thus diverting from the main issue.

What we are requesting is the facility to accept Srila Prabhupada as the sole guru of ISKCON within the institution established by him. This is not possible as long as the draconian law of prohibition is hanging on the head of the devotees of ISKCON. ‘

Yours in service of Lord Krishna,
Madhu Pandit Dasa,
President,
ISKCON Bangalore.
